Day #25 - The Gift of the Present

Theme
The Gift of the Present

Description
Since scientists have proved that ‘there is no time’ like the present, let’s value it and get the most out of it

To Do
Yep, it’s time to stop and smell and savor those roses and all the beauty your life holds today.

For some people living in the moment means just slowing down and pacing through the day with more deliberation. Others believe living in the moment automatically means looking for a little adventure, a little something extra to make that day a little different and more distinct than a normal run through the schedule day. Learning to live in the moment can mean getting up early to enjoy the beauty of an early sunrise, going for a hike instead of watching TV, or picking up a hobby that destroys any trace of boredom . . . or maybe it's time for a long adventurous vacation.  There are many reasons to enjoy life, many adventures both big and small to embrace.” (http://hubpages.com/hub/Live-In-The-Moment)

Nourish Yourself
What would you choose as your last meal on earth?  Make or order something you truly love!  (creme brulee sugar-toasted tableside with fresh raspberries comes to mind)

Get Up & Go!
If you could do anything you like at this very moment, what would it be.... whatever it is, try your best to make it a reality today

Tools
Focus, humor and gratitude

Tip
Take note of all the good you have in your life at this very instant.

Putting your life on hold, in the belief that this job, this thing, this event, will magically make it all right, holds no chance of peace. Noticing what is right under your nose -- which is the wonder of being alive in a world already full of possibilities -- brings riches no material item ever can.(Times of London via: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/18/learn-how-to-live-in-the_n_119550.html)

Tweak
Dispense with past events that no longer have a bearing in your life, let alone in this moment... example, if an elementary school teacher or student told you you were unintelligent or worthless in any way, does that have ANYTHING to do with who you are NOW, with this moment and your present?  Let it go!

Question
Do most of the things you worry about ever actually happen? How much time do you waste worrying

Thoughts
“You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment.” - Henry David Thoreau

“Forever is composed of nows.”  - Emily Dickinson

“When I am anxious it is because I am living in the future. When I am depressed it is because I am living in the past.” - Author Unknown

“The past is a guidepost, not a hitching post.” - L. Thomas Holdcroft

'Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why we call it 'The Present'.' - Eleanor Roosevelt

Tidbits

Sometimes life passes by so quickly that we forget to pay attention to what is going on. The kids grow up before our eyes, we get older and then we wonder where the time went. We live in a fast-paced society where work takes a large chunk of our day. Learn to live in the moment today.
  1. Look around you. Pay attention to the beauty in the world. Smell the scents in the air. See the colors around you. Really look. We rush so fast that we don't even notice what's right in front of our eyes. Feel the air. Close your eyes and let the sun beat on your face.
  2. Play with a child. Children live in the moment. They don't worry about tomorrow or what chores need to be done. They have fun doing silly simple things.
  3. Hug someone you love today. You never know if today is your last day. Treat people like you won't see them again. Say what you need to say and you won't have any regrets.
  4. Forget about "what if" and pay attention to "what is." You have a lot if you have a friend or two you can count on or if someone loves you. Appreciate what you have and forget about what you wish you had.
  5. Look for the good in people. You can find positive and negative in every situation and in every person. Look for the positive and you will find it.
  6. Let go of hate, anger and guilt. They are wasted emotions that just drag you down. Embrace love, happiness and gratitude.
  7. Do nice things for people. Help someone today. It will make you feel alive and make them feel good.
Treat
Do something you would normally put off, get it off your mind and out of this moment.  Then do something you love that you rarely take time for
